First up--yes, it's the first big Speranza story in ages, and it's in a fandom that none of you read! D'oh!! This is a belated birthday present for
Title: The Big Picture (174k)
Fandom: The Dead Zone
Pairing: Johnny/Walt (pics provided for you hussies)
Summary: His visions always gave him just enough information to act on, but they were never really great on giving him the big picture.
There's a bit of a fannish primer at the beginning of the story for those of you who might be interested in trying something new, or for those of you who read the Stephen King novel a million years ago or seem to vaguely remember seeing the film with Christopher ("The ice--it's gonna break!") Walken as Johnny Smith and Martin Sheen as his adversary, Greg Stillson. You might vaguely remember something about how biology teacher Johnny Smith gets into a car crash, goes into a coma for six years, and wakes up psychic and with his girlfriend married to another man. Well, on the TV show (starring all-grown-up Anthony Michael Hall, he of my icon, as Johnny Smith), the other man is the town sheriff Walt Bannerman (played by Chris Bruno) and they
Try it! You might like it! Also--new season of Dead Zone premieres June 12th on USA! The other seasons are out on DVD.
While I was updating my site, I added my last three SGA Flashfiction stories; they are:
Rodney's Last Message (for 38 Minutes challenge)
Clarity (for Voyeurism); and
Learning to Breathe for (City Exploration).
These last two will have sequels, one written by me, one not written by me.
Last but not least, Curtis has made two albums and while he works out the distribution with Itunes and all that, he's made his first website. Aside from his weird, unswerving devotion to Verdana as a font (though I suppose I shouldn't complain, as it's probably the same impulse that makes him weirdly and unswervingly devoted to me) it's pretty cool and there are a couple of free music downloads--so go off, try some Curtis Suburban music, see if you like it--and please pimp it to your friends if you do!

Then I thought: Ack, not SGA or dS, dammit.
Then I realized: Oh! But I used to wtach Dead Zone and I really liked it! (I saw Johnny/Walt but got distracted by the baddirtywrong potential of Johnny/Greg at the time)

The other big pairing in the fandom is of course Johnny/Bruce, but seriously--I went in looking for the Johnny/Bruce and felt like I kept being hit--and hard--with the Johnny/Walt stick. Bang! Bang! Bang! With the hand-holding and the joint parenting and the constant competition and collaboration. I just went guh and fell over like a sack of potatoes.

Oh god. You made me tear up. I love you--if the Titanic was going down I would give you my liferaft. And I love this pairing and god damn it, need to watch the show. NEED TO. How can I get S1 of SGA on DVD, I wonder, other than begging for it pitifully in my LJ? I wouldn't mind watching it before the new season starts.
...thinks about begging some more...

"Co-ma," Johnny said in a sing-songy voice, not really hoping to derail whatever weird train Walt was riding.
God, I haven't laughed this hard in forever. And heaven knows we can't have enough good DZ fic! So excited new eps are coming. I've had my TiVo set for ages. DZ and The 4400 - my summer is lookin' grand.

And I love my boys--they're totally 14, but they're also adult in a way few of our BSOs are; they're terrific parents, and they treat their complicated situation with dignity. I'm just nuts for them!
Anyway, thank you so much!

So, two things...
1.) My best friend has been trying to drag me kicking and screaming into Dead Zone. She has failed, *however* I am her slash supplier-(High speed internet) and she has been asking for DZ slash, which I honestly hadn't been looking very hard for (I've been forcing Atlantis on her)....so thanks that just made my life so much easier :)And since you wrote it I'll have to read the bloody thing and then probably get into DZ - so my best friend thanks you too. ;)
2.) I now have a Curtis folder in my music folder. I will let you know which one I put on repeat most often ;) And which one my best friend puts on repeat most often...and my boyfriend...and I'll put a link to his page in my lj cause I really really like his stuff. :)
Welcome back!!!!

Re: So, two things...
Wow. Those are two totally superb things!! Thank you!!1) There's actually a DZ fanfic archive at http://www.intimations.org/dzfanfic/
2) I thank you and Curtis thanks you! I might try a poll in a couple of days to ask which song we should mark for first listen when we send the discs out to radio stations--you normally only have one shot to get their attention. And yes, please, thank you thank you for passing the songs on! We're trying for dispersal right now, just getting people to listen!
Again, thank you, thank you!

"Yeah," Walt said. "You know, this coma shit is becoming a habit with you. Stop it."
Walt waved dismissively. "That's only because most of your friends are serial killers."
"My fault?" Johnny asked; he could feel his eyebrows straining upward. "You didn't pick out your own furniture and it's my fault?"
"Yeah," Walt said, and he looked serious enough, but there was a hint of a smile in his voice. "I mean, I've been kind of competing with you for years. It's not like you ever ended things properly. And as boyfriends go, you were kind of a doormat."
Johnny stared at him. "I was in a coma!"
And that discussion?! I am trying hard not to think of Rodney and John, with Johnny singsonging and Walt blatantly ignoring him and going on about his doormat status and Walt trying to be as passive as Johnny (in-a-coma!) <3
Johnny let his forehead thunk down onto Walt's suede-covered shoulder. This was just great: his life was the grand prize in the First Annual Cleaves Mills Scripture-Quoting Contest. "I don't believe this," he muttered.
*lol* and there is tea! Not that I do not
object strenuously toam not fan of tea-that-does-not-taste-like tea (I am Walt; I sense a pattern :S) but at least it's tea!Cool kid. But is Sarah really that bad? Or does she just sense the Walhnny?
Hehehe, and is Walt really that cool? Even when declining invitations to ponder tables, or using Johnny for practical day-to-day problems *g*
Oh, threesome with Sarah. Sort of. Walt being so very generous. And only the two guys finally making - uninterrupted-by-visions - contact drags it back to the light (in both senses).
I also hadn't quite realised Johnny had both a bad leg and such black-outs. Are we perverts for finding that attractive? I thought about that ever since Jane Eyre and the millions of follow-ups. I even made a list of which bodily scars and defects are romantic and which are off-putting. I had forgotten about this *sheepish*
One complaint: they eat too much. I am getting damn hungry here!!
But men, of course, have their own kind of romance.
Walt stopped and waved his hand vaguely at Johnny, "this shit is ridiculous."
"Okay, thanks for that really un-useful advice. You can go now."
And when Walt lets him IN this time, it's really the most intimate ministration, like giving blow-jobs to lessen pain.
OH, I didn't expect a full blown murder investigation. This is getting exciting! I guess this is similar to what they do on the show then? Did you find it easy to invent a scenario?
And do you read and/or like Minette Walters and/or Elizabeth George?
They are eating again *accusing* and there is no way for me to get fries or chips *stomach growls*
"... man, but it was cruel to go into a coma and wake up thirty." And I really shouldn't groan knowingly at that, right? Or that: "Johnny couldn't stand to envision his heart as a flower opening to light".
Whoa. I didn't get right away that Walt got that the future wouldn't change. And why am I hoping they get away with this.
I always find this (natural?) dichotomy, one the one hand the practical, servicing, funny "one of the things that Johnny's learned from years of visions is that good advice comes from the weirdest places" and then the personal, what's driving or rewarding: "It was so nice to have someone's hands on him, and know they wanted nothing more than to touch him". Even more rewarding is the bit where he doesn't need Walt to reciprocate, and Walt just does it anyway, easily, naturally.
Sweet. And no, I know you could make me like lots of unknown stuff with your fics, but unless you send me the DVDs, I will not!not be sucked into this, hah! This is also the first time ever I read a slash fic where I don't know the source, so feel flattered. Or something *g*
May 31 2005, 23:04:41 UTC 7 years ago
Vis a vis Johnny--in the novel, Johnny's very sick, almost living on borrowed time. In the show, he does have a limp (car accident) and walk with a cane, but more importantly there is danger that his brain might do something strange at any time; in the last season, there was some question as to whether he'd need brain surgery or if he might die. So, uh, yeah. A little damaged, but not as badly as in the novel.
And I am SO SO SO flattered!!!
PS--Everyone in my stories eats too much. It's a known fact--it's a cliche about my fiction! Resonant, they love the sex scenes. Me, they ask for recipes, sigh. *g*

Belatedly answering--
Yay! Listen, youv'e got to help me pimp this show, because DZ should absolutely and positively have a fandom. I mean, choice of beautiful men, big gay psychic, lots of touching, what's not to love??6 years ago

I really liked they way you wove Johnny's flashes into the story, and thought they way you built their relationship felt really natural. I enjoyed myself immensely.
And have yet to actually listen to any of it, but I grabbed some of the music as well, thank you for the link!

cesperanza, if I didn't know that my girlfriend would object, I'd ask you to marry me (well, actually, she loves Dead Zone as well, so I might get away with a casual affair:-)) I'm in awe. I've printed the whole thing out (I'm presently at work) and I'm going to savour every word. There's just not enough DZ fic out there, even though it's such an amazing show and *screaming* for a writer's attention. It got mine, anyway, and once I've got the time, I'll translate what I've written (it's in German:-) Until then: THANK YOU again, please know that I'm your devoted reader...and I will comment tomorrow!June 14 2005, 20:21:11 UTC 6 years ago
Belatedy squeeing over DZ with you!
There's just not enough DZ fic out there, even though it's such an amazing show and *screaming* for a writer's attention.Absolutely! It's SO screaming for a fandom--you got your choice of beautiful men, and gen, het and slash possibilities, and sci fi, and visions, and sexy psychic touching--what is NOT to love, I ask you??
June 1 2005, 13:46:42 UTC 6 years ago
And no, no no no no no Zerlina NO, you're not going to give it a go just because hey, it's Speranza, how can you resist? Because then you just know you'll be hooked in a show that has a fat chance in HELL of airing over here and you're sunk. Again. Didn't living at the tender mercies of Alliance Atlantis teach you at ALL? And anyway, it's not like you need another new fandom!
--Oh, wait, AXN is going to premiere the first season in July! *gives in*
And I liked Curtis' music. (That's really his name? I had no idea *g*) Loved Destruction especially. Congratulations to him for the albums and his shiny new website!
